San Juan La Laguna is located on the southern shores of Lake Atitlán in Guatemala-- a quiet town known for its organic all natural textiles, oil paintings and coffee. Casa Flor Ixcaco is a Mayan co-op of women master weavers who have created something very special in San Juan. Each weaver brings her own unique eye and talents to a piece. Spinning their organic home-grown cotton in 4 native colors - white, kakhy, ixcaco and green - they also make their own dyes from seeds, leaves, flowers and tree bark. All pieces are woven on the traditional back-strap loom. Each garment comes with the photo of the artist who made it, the names of the dyes she used, and the number of weeks it took her to make it. Our goal is to create a lasting relationship with the women of Casa Flor Ixcaco, empowering them to continue making textiles with their unique, modern aesthetic. Your purchase helps to continue that, and more importantly helps keep their co-op alive.
